THIS MONTH SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 30th IS OUR GET-TOGETHER.
N H E Chapter Director’s Message
Another month has flown by, in fact another season Summer has gone, and Autumn is officially here, although at this time we are having a touch of Indian summer, so ride while you can. Time is running short!
We got lots of rain on our Hobo Stew, but we still did an awesome job, what a great team we are! As usual Donna and Rick led us in a successful event. Donna and Rick have decided to step down as coordinators of our Hobo Stew and we will certainly miss them, although they plan to be around to provide assistance, their leadership will be truly missed. Rick has already prepared flyers for next year, and he and Ted have booked the American Legion for next September 7th. Thanks! We hope to see you all there so mark your calendars now!! You are what makes this event so successful, we need you all, every one’s job is important!
Barbara will provide us with the financial details at our monthly meeting. It was great to see Bill and Linda some new friends from Ct. B., a new chapter, they arrived with a plastic tub full of canned goods for our event. We also had Martha and Bob from New York, they had stayed at a local hotel to attend our stew. Again many, many thanks to Donna and Rick for all they have done to help make Hobo Stew the event it is today. And thanks to all of Chapter E’s members, and their families for all their help!
Two weeks ago we attended Ma W’s Barbecue it was a fun day, 12 bikes, made the trip, we enjoyed lots of wonderful friends, door prizes, delicious food (lots of it,) and we didn’t even stop for ice cream It was great to have Loretta and Paul as our tail gunners again, Loretta works so hard to keep the sun shining on us! However, Roy led the ride home and there was not a cloud to be found. Speaking of sunshine, a little sun was shining on Loretta and Paul at Hobo Stew in the form of prizes. They won Hobo Squares and a gift certificate.
We just returned from Wings over the Smokies and everyone had a great time. We were fortunate to have good weather and the scenery in that area is just breath taking. Rod said he felt it was as beautiful as their trip to Nova Scotia and a lot less expensive!! Bob and Hazel had some trouble with their bike, but they managed to get it running and were headed to Pa. to visit with their family for a week. Margo and Bruce spent an additional week visiting the area, lucky them. Many of us expressed the desire to visit the area again, and spend more time at some of the cities and towns near by. Although we all enjoyed different areas, visiting Cherokee, Pigeon Forge, Mount Mitchell, the Blue Ridge Parkway, and some of us even rode Deal’s Gap, the most important part was sharing time with our GW friends and riding together safely.
Steve Provencher has volunteered to become our new Webmaster. Steve has designed a new awesome web site, which he says will be easy to use and maintain. Steve’s job has made him very proficient in this area. We are excited to view the new site. Along with Rick’s many tasks over the years he has been responsible for our website. Once again we wish to thank Rick for all his hard work and dedication to our Chapter. Rick has filled many vacancies in our Chapter over the years, and does so much for us behind the scenes, such as webmaster, picking up supplies, the menu for the Christmas Party. Thank you sooooo much Rick for all you do!!!
Hope to see you all on Sunday for our monthly get together. Hopefully we will be able to ride after the meeting. Weather sounds sunny and bright, cool and brisk. Dress warmly!

ASSISTANT DIRECTOR'S NOTES
A & W Ride
We had another beautiful day for a ride. Seven bikes got together and went to A & W. Rod led us through Vermont with all its gorgeous farmland and breathtaking views. We passed by the Holiday Inn in Rutland which will be the host hotel for the New England Rally next year. Once we arrived at A & W we pushed some tables together and had a feast. Root Beer floats were abundant as were the jokes. Deputy Frog, also, entertained us with a “belly tune” and Loretta was actually able to identify it! Speaking of Loretta, it was great to have both Paul and Loretta back as our official Tail Gunner and Gunnerette.
After lunch, Ted & I decided that we didn’t want to go home so we split off from the group to explore the area a little more thoroughly. We spent the night in Rutland and then headed back home. Once we hit the state boarder, though, we extended our ride again and explored more of Massachusetts. So our A & W ride started at 7 a.m. on Sunday and didn’t end until 6 p.m. on Monday and was over 500 miles. Those of you who have done any long distance riding with us will be surprised to find out that when we did our last fill up of the gas tank, it took almost 5 gallons! We actually saw the gas gauge needle hit the red line. Now that’s progress!
10th Annual Hobo Stew
We made it through the first nine years without rain so this year we tried something different to celebrate our 10th anniversary. We had a downpour. But the day was still a lot of fun and a great success. We were able to keep all of our prizes and games under cover and the stew was great as ever. Over 60 people attended and considering the rain, quite a few of them were on motorcycles. In fact, our first guests were from New York and arrived on a trike followed a few minutes later by a couple from Maine. GWRRA members certainly are a hardy stock! We collected a lot of canned goods for Feed-A-Friend this year and were assisted greatly by our newest guests, CT-B. Four members of this newly formed chapter came with a large tub filled with almost 50 cans of food !!! Also, one of their members won the prize for “Most Uniquely Dressed Visiting Hobo” which was a motorcycle clock created by our own Barbara Stone. As usual, our NH-E members worked together like a well oiled machine. To be perfectly honest, we could not be prouder to be members of this chapter. Great job, everyone!
The only sad part was that Rick and Donna are stepping down as coordinators of the Hobo Stew. They assured us that they will always be around to assist when necessary. We all are very grateful for their enormous contribution.
MA-W BBQ
What a turn out ! This was probably one of the biggest turnouts this season. There were 12 bikes that came to the BBQ even though it was a chilly morning. Everyone bundled up in lots of layers and were rewarded with a great meal at MA-W as usual. We had a few winners in the Chinese auction among our group. Even Bob Young managed to get a prize even though he forgot to drop most of his tickets into the buckets. I guess that he was meant to win. I did happen to hear that there were a couple of our group misbehaving. Hmmm… Loretta and Dick do you have anything to say about this?

WINTERIZING YOUR BIKE
As you know, proper storage of your bike is important for safe, trouble free operation in the spring. Following are some tips to get your bike ready for the winter months ahead. These tips are very general. If you have any questions, be sure to go by what your owner's manual or dealer says.
? Wash, dry and wax your bike. This helps prevent rust and corrosion.
? Warm the motorcycle to operation temperature. Change the oil and filter.
? Check air pressure in both tires and adjust pressure if needed. Have it to spec.
? Fill the gas tank completely with gas. Add fuel stabilizer. The less air that can get in the tank the better.
? Remove the battery from the bike. Check the water, fill if needed with distilled water. Store the battery in a cool, dry place, off the concrete floor. Charge monthly with a trickle charger or use a battery tender. Also check the water monthly and fill with distilled water if needed.
? Store your bike in a garage if possible, and cover. Set bike on center stand.
Now that your bike is snug for the winter, let it rest. Don't be tempted to start it to hear it run. Mother Nature has a funny way of condensing water in your motor oil and engine. You must operate your bike until the engine oil reaches 212 degrees to dissipate the moisture. If you start your bike and only run it for a few minutes, all you will do is spread that moisture throughout the engine, which will cause rust and corrosion.
Don't forget to condition your leathers. They need periodic care too.
Final note, If you are using your bike during the winter months make sure that your throttle cables are properly lubricated. They can get water in them and freeze, locking the throttle open.

N H E EDITOR’S CORNER
Well the weather is still inviting us to ride for a while. Every one is home from the North Carolina ride safe and sound. We met Donna & Rick today and except for lack of sleep they had a great time.
Those of you who went to the Mass W Ride and barbeque are no doubt happy you did. It was a good weather day, a good ride, friends to chat with, and good food and deserts galore. KUDOS to them for a successful fund raiser. We never want to miss it and so far have not.
Our friends from Vermont Marty & Arlene went home with a mini Harley motorcycle. He had the worst hand in the card game. Not a bad gift for the worst.
This week end the owner of Walpole Creamery is inviting us to have ice cream there in Walpole. This is one of the newer places for homemade ice cream we found while out riding. Great price and good amount in every serving.
See you at the get together this Sunday.
So long for now, Paul & Loretta Zamitis. N H E Editors
